Aquamarine History
The color of an aquamarine runs from mild green to blue-green and pale blue to a deep blue. When they are mined they are usually green, but their color can be permanently changed to blue through a heating process. The deeper richer color generally only occur in larger size stones, while the smaller stones are more pastel or have a clear hue of color.
Aquamarine Information
Aquamarines are mined in Brazil, Columbia, India, Russia and the United states. Aquamarines, like emeralds, are a member of the beryl gemstone family. On the Mohs Hardness Scale the aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5 to 8.
