The Garnet has been used in jewelry over 3,000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians who had them inlaid in jewelry. According to the Bible Noah hung a garnet from the bow of the ark as a light. The garnet is supposed to symbolized devotion, friendship and loyalty. The garnet is January Birthstone and is the second anniversary gift.

Garnet History

The garnet's gets its name from the ancient Greeks who felt its color was similar to the granatum or pomegranate fruit. The colors of garnets range from deep red to orange, and browns through purple, and green.

Garnet Information

Garnets are mined in Bohemia, Russian, and Africa. On the Mohs Hardness Scale the garnet has a rating of 7 to 7.5.
