Chinese New Year Calendar

The Chinese calendar is based on a Lunar or 'metonic' calendar and a solar calendar. The lunar cycle is 29.531 days long, and need to be adjusted with the insertion of an extra month every 7 years out of a 19-year cycle. This principle is similar to adding a leap year every 4 years (except in centuries divisible by 400), and explains why the Chinese New Year is floating holiday.
