Mardi Gras parades start on January 6th the epiphany and culminate on Fat Tuesday the last day before lent. The famous Mardi Gras parades start two and half weeks before the end of Mardi Gras with the Bal Masque of the twelfth night revelers, and ride of the Phunny Phorty Phellows along St. Charles Ave. The weekend before fat Tuesday there are two very large parades the Endymion parade on Saturday and Bacchus parade on Sunday. The largest parade itself comes on Carnival day or Fat Tuesday. The parade starts on Napoleon Ave, down St. Charles Ave onto canal Street and finishes at Ernest Morial Convention Center
Promptly at midnight on Fat Tuesday, the police and massive cleaning crews clear the streets of partygoers. The two most famous krewes officially end the evening with the meeting at the court of rex and the Comus at the ball of the mystic house of Comus
