Thanksgiving 2005

Thanksgiving 2005 will be the fourth Thursday in November, or November 25th. This was a legal holiday sanctioned by Congress in 1941. While traditionally meant to act as day for families to join together and give thanks for the events of the year, in more recent times it has become known as the start of the Christmas season.

The Friday after Thanksgiving has become known as 'Black Friday' because it was the day retailers traditionally went from being in the red to being in the black. While it is still a busy shopping day more sales are now done on the Saturday and Sunday following thanksgiving than on Friday. With the rise of ecommerce merchants are also seeing Christmas shopping starting sooner each year, as more people try to avoid the holiday crowds.
